New international project funded!

Dr. David-Chavez in collaboration with the Mountain Sentinels team received funding from the National Science Foundation for convergence research on transformations to sustainability in mountain ecosystems by integrating science with diverse practices, knowledge, and participants. The project establishes the Mountain Science Operating with Society (MtnSOS) network that works with diverse mountain peoples to develop strategies for sustaining their lands and livelihoods. This group is comprised of mountain peoples, scientists, and local experts who work together to identify adaptations for environmental change, empower local voices to improve policies and governance, and develop problem-solving approaches toward mountain sustainability.

To kick off this initiative, the Mountain Sentinels are hosting a summit that aims to “leverage the synergistic power of western science, local and Indigenous knowledge, business, policy and advocacy to address mountain environmental and community sustainability in the face of rapid climate change.” For more information, click the link below!
