Introducing the Indigenous climate resilience science hub (RVCC Hub)

Dr. David-Chavez is working collaboration with The Rising Voices Center for Indigenous and Earth Sciences, Haskell Indian Nations University, and a local research team in Borikén (Puerto Rico) on a National Science Foundation-funded project supporting the development of an Indigenous climate resilience science hub. This hub will be guided by Indigenous knowledges, along with modeling capabilities, archeological records, geographic information system technologies, social-ecological analyses, and hazards research. The findings will enhance our fundamental understanding of the interconnected physical, cultural, social, ecological, and economic processes that result in coastal hazards and climate resilience opportunities, and increase the accuracy, relevance, and usability of model predictions for future planning and decision-making.

Dr. D will be leading facilitation of the ethics and Indigenous data sovereignty working group for the hub, towards centering Indigenous governance, rights, relationships, and values.
