As part of an international study, Dr. David-Chavez has been working with the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) to quantify ongoing negative impacts of industrial development and environmental harm on the lifeways, rights, and lands of Indigenous Peoples. This study utilizes data from the Environmental Justice Atlas (EJAtlas), which has mapped over 3,000 global socio-environmental conflicts. Dr. D shares her reflections below and in this SOURCE article.

“Though our findings reveal clear evidence of the disproportionate burdens carried by Indigenous Peoples, this data only reaches the surface of the lived experiences, including countless stories of intergenerational violence and resilience known to those who have protected our Earth’s lifeways and resources for countless generations. The importance of ensuring these stories are known and these injustices addressed drew me to collaborate on this study.”
